Tipping - Why?
Okay, I’m back.
So, tipping. I’ve just moved to a new land where tipping is the norm. About 15% of the bill, in fact. Well, I know the service industry is underpaid, but is that my fault? I’m too ashamed to pull out a calculator so have to roughly round it up and, frankly, parting with even more money is hard. I’m a fan of putting all the costs together before presenting the bill, so everyone knows where they are. Then, if the service was superlative, I’ll slip the person some extra cash. But generally it’s not. Generally I’ve been treated like crap.
And it’s more painful handing over cash than swiping a peice of plastic. That hard-earned money is so tangible, and the sandwich I’m buying is so pricey. Still, my bad for travelling. ‘Nuff complaining.
