How Did You Choose Your Site Name?
What’s in a name? I look around the blogosphere and some names are catchier than others. A blog called Make Money Blogging might communicate its intentions but it doesn’t scream excitement to me. Names like Boing Boing sound silly but are memorable. Lazy Man and Money intrigues me; why is he lazy? Is he making money despite his laziness? So I’ll go visit. Some people use their real names as their brand: John Chow, or John Smith. That means they’re either famous already or they’re proud to put their name to their product, which makes me trust them.
How did you choose your site name? Is it your real name, is it catchy, are your keywords in there? I chose Rich Minx because a) I want to be rich and this blog’s about money, and b) ‘minx’ is a female cat term and has a slight cheeky/naughty connotation which is how I aim to be most of the time. And I like cats. The branding seems to be working; I’m getting more traffic from ‘rich minx’ searches in Google than any other keyword so far.
But I decided it’s time to use my real name too, and provide a bit more information about myself. Yes, I’ve come out of the closet! No ‘cat out of the bag’ jokes, please. If you care, you can read my updated About Me page. Otherwise you can just keep calling me Rich or Minx or even both, I don’t mind, but I won’t respond to Catwoman.
