What Is Your Flagship Post?
If you run a blog, which post is your ‘flagship’ post so far? A flagship post is one that your blog is most well-known for. You might not consider it your best post, but it’s the one that’s received the most traffic/comments/bouquets.
I ask because a while back ChrisG, who runs the Authority Blogger Forum I frequent and chatter on, got us all to submit our flagship posts a while back and stuck them on his blog. It’s a very mixed Greatest Hits list because we all write on different topics.
Mine is still that old chestnut, How To Make 4c A Week From Your Blog. I had just had a 4c week from Google AdSense and wrote an honest post about how I ‘achieved’ it, which a lot of people related to. (Coming up: How To Reach 10 RSS Subscribers.)
Anyway, I skimmed the list of flagship posts, opened the ones with the best titles and sifted through those. My favorites are below:
- Blogging Fingers sold a blog and advises how to do it. RichMinx.com would have to be pulled from my cold, dead hands - but I’m still interested in how one goes about selling a blog.
- Straight To The Bar takes a slight detour with 10 tips on Starting Your Fitness Journey. Great tips for some of us inert bloggers! I would also add: think about your workout outfit. Not (just) for vanity; the right shoes and fabric etc can make a big difference.
- Imaging Buffet has 4 Tips For Taking Better Low-Light Photos. Handy tips for my travel photography, and anything with pretty nightshots of the Eiffel Tower is just a bonus.
- SEO Refugee has 10 Mistakes That Will Kill A Forum. I’ve set up and run a few forums, and I’m an active forum user, so these words of warning ring very true.
- Cre8pc had a bad experience with a massive traffic influx in I Don’t Digg Being Dugg. I have mixed feelings about Digg; it’s huge, has some interesting articles and the traffic flow can be nice (although I’ve never had a homepage article), but people can be pretty gosh-darn mean. Meanies!
So, people: What’s your ‘flagship’ article thus far? Is it the one you expected?

Hey thanks for the reference. I’m glad you liked my post
I’m finding I have many flagship articles and it was very hard to chose one to submit to ChrisG, but I’m glad you like the one I chose anyway.
August 17th, 2007 at 11:45 pmGod knows. My blog is all over the place!
August 18th, 2007 at 1:21 amInteresting question, Minx. Since I my blog is mostly about nature, I expected my more generally-accessible series on How to Host a Blog Carnival (http://10000birds.com/hostwiththemost.htm) to be the flagship post. While it is widely linked and read, the perennial fave on 10,000 Birds is definitely my answer to the question “What is a Seahawk?” (http://10000birds.com/seahawk.htm) This post is read every day and even got a link on SuperBowl.com when the Seahawks went to the NFL championship game!
August 18th, 2007 at 3:53 amMy flagship post is my Massive Personal Finance Resource List. It got on the hot page for del.icio.us for a day and ended up having over 5,000 visits that day. I wrote that in May and it’s still my number one viewed post. I wish I could have maintained that traffic. I’m back to averaging 250 visits again. Boo.
August 18th, 2007 at 10:24 am250 isn’t too bad, Brett.
Imagine them all in the same room - it would be crowded!
August 18th, 2007 at 2:32 pmHard to choose. I have several that I’m proud of.
August 18th, 2007 at 3:53 pmCheers for the link Shona. The outfit idea isn’t a bad one at all. Fancy doing a guest post?
August 18th, 2007 at 9:23 pmAnything with a picture of a monkey in it is a flagship post for me! :p Besides that, anything Paris hilton related scores well.
August 19th, 2007 at 6:40 pmWow, that’s quite a title! How much traffic did that article result in?
PS. I always have a craving for burgers after visiting your site, no idea why.
August 19th, 2007 at 7:07 pmIt’s only been up a couple of days so at this stage the results are inconclusive. With a title like that though I’m really curious to see what search engine traffic it draws in.
