August 07 Navel Gaze And September Goals
The one where Rich Minx mulls over her blog’s progress in August and thinks about the coming month.
If you’re nodding off already, may I politely direct you to a hilarious video I found of Kevin Smith completely owning a heckler at a comic fest. (Note: Contains offensive language involving mothers, do not watch at the office and watch only under the supervision of an adult.)
These were my goals for August:
1. To increase traffic, linkbacks, RSS subscribers, income and world domination by at least 10%
I made it to the Technorati Top 5000 blogs (more via link trains than writing prowess) and traffic and RSS subscribers nearly doubled thanks to some Stumbles and two links on ProBlogger. August was all about spending money (on a paid review, on a Million Dollar Wiki page etc) rather than making it. September will tell me whether the spending pays off.
2. Write a balance of ‘pillar’ and funny posts that are on-topic; to make you laugh, cry and love again
Hmm, nothing that rivaled Shakespeare but I think I stayed reasonably focused. The top posts were 7.5 Reasons I Abandoned You Today and My First AdSense Check.
3. To make more blogging contacts by finding new blogs and posting wittily on forums
I’ve made a few more contacts, but still need to work on this, as always. Virtual hugs to Bryan@OneMansGoal, Rhys, Ryan Shamus and Bloggrrl.
4. Timestamp more posts so they appear as if by magic while I sleep
Yes, I did do this! Big Tick.
5. Get my first page rank! For the love of Google, how long must I wait??
Another month and I am STILL waiting. Ah but Google, how can I stay mad at you? Your share price is still over $500.
September Goals
September is going to be another mad month in my non-blogging world but I would still like to:
- Find a sponsor. Who will sponsor me? Your money will go towards clean water, vaccinations for Rich Minx and bags of rice. I will send you a Xmas card.
- Run a competition. I swore on the flag (can’t remember which one) that I would run a competition once my subscriber list ran into the hundreds. Now it does. Stay tuned!

I totally agree about Google…if we would have received our PR’s last month - income surely would be up in September.

Timestamps are great! I managed to do three posts over the weekend while sitting around a camp fire in Wales. What are post slugs? Sounds slimey.
Well done last month! I think the Million Dollar Wiki will be more of a long term thing so you might not see any benefits for several months.
