Scott, a regional look would be interesting. Although on the other hand it’s quite handy being able to go global. New Zealand traffic accounts for about 2% of my total traffic.

Comparing individual lists would be interesting — though in theory those are already reflected in a blogroll. Another way to make a “top 50″ list more meaningful is to slice it into categories. Here’s what I found for the NxE list:

19 in Computers & Internet
11 in Business & Finance
8 in News & Politics
6 in Society & Culture
4 in Entertainment
2 in Shopping (gadgets)

(See my post for details, including 2 dozen sub-categories.)

A regional look would also be interesting, e.g. I think “down under” is well represented.

In answer to your question. Respectfully ,no, I will not create such a list. I just do not see why anyone would be interested in a no name blogger like myself to state who are the most influential bloggers out there. Just does not see a good use of time.

Besides I am working on other projects that I hope will serve my audience. Details coming soon.

Jack: You’re right, but I guess some people prefer gender-specific lists so they can have their place.

L: Kevin is technically a ‘blogger’ but is it his blog he’s famous for and which influences people?

Doug and Richard: It would be interesting to see more such lists and compare. Are you going to make one?

Kirsty: Thinking about how many bloggers are out there can be a bit overwhelming! I try and keep the ‘everybody is a unique snowflake’ idea in mind

Rhys: Link baiting for the sake of it can get boring. What about The Top 50 Top 50 lists?

Classic link baiting!

I just feel though link baiting could be dying, as I can imagine people are getting sick of it.

Think about it, they only way you can link bait effectively is if you tick off the big bloggers, unless you resort to something like “Top 50 bloggers with less than 200 readers to their feed”, which may attract the attention of those said 50 bloggers.

I dunno. I’ll just stick to calling a post “FREE SEX” when I want to grab people’s attention

Lists are great ways of attracting links so I think of them more as link bait then anything else. My list of top bloggers will probably differ from the majority of those out there and this is a good thing as the Internet is a great equalizer of information.

i think it’s all relative as well, some of those bloggers should be higher in my opinion, while they might be lower for someone else. maybe we should make a top 50 list of our own than compile them and see who overlaps, then make a list form that
