Touch The Sound Of Silence: A Week Without Blogging

I haven’t blogged this week, partly because I’ve been busy and partly because I wanted to see what would happen if I didn’t.  Results below.

The World

The world didn’t end; in fact, it carried on. The cheek!

Traffic

Traffic definitely dropped, by about 20%.  That’s not too bad considering how silent I was. Did they see tumbleweed? Come back, traffic! Look, I baked you some cookies.

Comments

Well, of course there were fewer comments, but some came from new readers who were browsing through older posts.  There’s about four months’ worth of posts on this site now, with at least three decent ones. I in turn have not commented on anyone’s site this week. That’s bad for blogging friendships and bad for traffic. Naughty.

RSS

My RSS Reader articles piled up due to non-checking and were in the hundreds by yesterday. I skimmed through the list and only opened the most exciting ones.  Yes, your post was one of them. The rest? The cheat button: ‘Mark all as read’. Naughty.

Money

Ah, money. This blog has never made much money directly (it comes from people commissioning me for work). AdSense doesn’t seem to have changed at all, although I notice the ads displaying for me today have changed; Google seems confused about what this site is all about now. It is not a dating site, Google! No, don’t spider the words dating site! Doh!

    Woo! First post.
    Where’s the cookies?
What, this site ISN’T about dating? I guess I have been looking for love in all the wrong places!

Darn it, I was working on a dating article hoping you would post it on your site. Looks like it’s back to the drawing board.

It sounds like you had a good little break. Get back to blogging before your traffic tumbles even more.

    Hey Minx!

GREAT to see you back! If it was a week, it was an eternity!

    Keeping busy?

Actually, what you described is exactly why I started letting myself take weekends off.

My traffic slowed somewhat, maybe 10-20%, but honestly it was always slower on weekends, so half that is probably natural.

Somehow, people got on fine without me for two days, and they came back Monday as usual! Imagine that.

Not only that, I feel so much better without the pressure of trying to write 7 days a week!
