Your 100% Free eBook (Post)
Last week I wrote a post lamenting the silly emails I receive. Then, lo and behold, I received a very polite email from Matt at Blogging Fingers. He even knew my name! Granted, I probably wasn’t the only person he emailed, but his friendly email prompted me to click the link to the free eBook he was announcing (although the ‘100% legal’ promise admittedly did put me off a little).
The book has some nice blogging and monetization tips, including a reminder that PPC ads like AdSense are better for un-web-savvy visitors, not so good for your regulars, and then at the end there was a handy link to more free reading called Stop Procrastinating Now. Maybe later.
Why write an eBook?
- You probably have 80% of the content already from your blog posts
- It’s a nice service for your regular readers/new readers
- It helps promote your blog
- You can add affiliate links to it
- Street cred
Would you write an eBook?
If you already have, I’d be interested in hearing how it went.
I admit that I did once write an eBook. About seven years ago, at the grand old age of 23, I wrote a guide for men about how to attract women (priceless tips such as ‘wash’). It sold okay, not well enough for me to dedicate my life to writing eBooks though. If I did write another one now, the topic would probably be one of the following scorchers:
- How to make 4c a week from your blog
- A painstaking, point by point recap of the ‘07 iPhone hype
- Tom Cruise: you can help for just $1 a day (plus meds)
- How to write good: present perfect simple vs present perfect continuous on your blog!

Thanks Shona! I’m glad I didn’t come across as another “silly person”!
I hope your readers like the e-book and enter the contest
March 2nd, 2008 at 11:02 amPersonally, I really can’t see the appeal of an e-book. I much prefer a real book, hell if I want to read things, I go to a website.
Incidentally, that hasn’t stopped me from releasing an e-book, oh no! It’s not free, but you can get it from here:

March 2nd, 2008 at 10:06 pmTell you the truth, I’ve never read an ebook. An ebook is an evil scheme cooked up by a hack writer who wants to be a published author, minus the hard work. Course, I can’t even drag myself to put together an ebook, so its not like I’m looking down on ebook writers or something. Just my 2 cents…
March 3rd, 2008 at 2:26 amAm I the only one that noticed the Tom Cruise and meds thing?
Honestly, Mr. Minx, I enjoy you writing. Consider me another reader.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:19 amHehe - thanks, Albert L. Although it’s ‘Ms’ Minx.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:04 amlol@Rhys.
Amusing post. I’m not a fan of ebooks myself… I’d rather leaf through pages than scroll through a free copy of Adobe Reader.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:20 amWriting an eBook is good for the readers, because they can have all info in one place, structured, thus easier to find. I’m also writing an ebook now and I hope my readers will enjoy it.
March 16th, 2008 at 7:55 pmI have actually published several ebooks in the past and found them to be a decent way to earn money online. Like you, I didn’t make a fortune, but it was good experience. I quit writing them because personally, I think people are kind of burnt out on ebooks, and a lot of people are beginning to realize that you can get the same information from bloggers for free.
March 18th, 2008 at 9:45 amWell I do agree a bit that some poeple are getting burned out on ebooks, especially the make money online sort, they are not burned out in all niche areas. There are some niches where the consumer is not always connected to the Internet and it helps to have a ready source of information that they can pull up at anytime. This is just some of the benefits of ebooks and it sure makes it easier then sifting through a bunch of blogs to find the information you really need.
Shona I really liked this post it was irreverent and cynical which is a refreshing outlook that is needed on the web.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:50 amWell i do agree somewhat that many people are burned out on ebooks that is not the case for all consumers there is some niches that are still eager to have some sort of consolidated information and an ebook is just the ticket. Just my two cents of course.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:52 amWhere have you gone, Rich Minx?
March 19th, 2008 at 3:34 amI’m still here, EC! Just experiencing some Wordpress issues which are preventing me from posting. Will sort it out this weekend and be back on air soon.
In the meantime, please view my smoke signals which are being transmitted in an easterly direction.
March 21st, 2008 at 9:46 amThank you Richard, irreverence and cynicism are my middle names. It’s true, ask Mum and Dad Minx.
March 21st, 2008 at 9:47 amRhys, I forgot to say that your buymystupidebook is hilarious and spot on! And geniusly filled with affiliate links - damn, why didn’t I think of it?
